Hunter Lois Jean [Female] b. 6 NOV 1927 Jackson, MI - d. 5 MAY 2021 Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice, Jackson, MI

Documents:
Burial Monument, South Jackson Cemetery, Jackson, MI

Obituary:
Lois Jean (Hunter) Heady passed away from natural causes on May 5, 2021, at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, MI. She was predeceased by her husband, M. Neel Heady, in 2005 after 58 years of marriage.
Lois was born on November 6, 1927, in Jackson, MI, to Helene (Rouse) and Don Hunter. She spent many memorable hours working at her Dad's filling station in Jackson, especially on Saturdays earning $1 for every car she washed. Shortly after graduating from Jackson High School, she fell in love and married the boy next door on July 15, 1947. She and Neel moved into a tiny house on Arnold St. and patiently waited for their family to grow. Those years were filled with DIY home renovations (like adding an indoor bathroom), flights up north to Beaver Island in Neel's Piper Cruiser, and many weekend road trips to Kentucky to visit relatives. After 10 years they welcomed Doug and then two years later, Patty, into their home and their "life could finally begin" as Lois was fond of saying. They spent many happy years raising and encouraging their kids in any sport, activity, club, hobby, and adventure they could squeeze into every day. A major and important part of life was spent at So
uth Jackson Community Church where Neel and Lois were members for 50+ years. They both served on various church boards, Lois in the Women's Guild, and were involved in several renovations and upgrades to the Church. Many great friendships were formed over the years and remain today.
After Neel's retirement from Goodyear Tire, he and Lois spent 25 years in Leesburg, FL, where they made lifelong friends. In their spare time, after golf, bowling, and horseshoes, Neel worked as a security guard at the local hospital, maintenance at their travel park and Lois was a Hospice volunteer. They joined Clermont Minneola Lions Club in Clermont, FL, where they spent many hours in volunteer activities. One of Lois's proudest moments was being the first female elected Lion of the Year in 1997.
They decided to move back to Michigan to be near family in 2005 where Neel very unexpectedly died after hip surgery. Lois was also preceded in death by her parents; brother Bob Hunter in 2003; and daughter, Patty (Heady Gloden) Valentine in 2016.
Survived by son, Doug Heady (Kathy Norman Heady) Ann Arbor MI; cherished grandsons Bryon Gloden (Ling Sha) NYC; Derek Gloden (partner Ashley Skrabut) Memphis TN; Kevin Gloden, Saginaw MI; special sister-in-law Jacqueline Hunter, niece Kathy (Hunter) Higgins, nephew, Bill Hunter, Jackson MI; cousin (more like a sister) Joyce Ramsey, Lady Lake FL; several more local relatives; and numerous Heady and Carroll relatives in Kentucky.
Lois spent a life of service to others and never met a stranger. We'll miss her meticulous decorating for every change in the season and every holiday; her staying up all night to finish a good book; her unfailing confidence in the Tigers; playing a friendly game of pinochle; sense of fashion; and her deviled eggs at every family gathering.
Graveside service will take place later this month. Donations in remembrance of Lois would be appreciated to South Jackson Community Church, 1024 West Kimmel Rd., Jackson, MI 49201, or to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home, 2150 Kingsbrooke, Jackson, MI 49202.
