Rita M. Scherer
Age 81 of Owosso passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at Memorial Healthcare.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Saturday December 3, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Michael O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Friday December 2, 2016 from 2pm to 8pm with a rosary being prayed at 7pm.
Rita was born December 6, 1934 in Owosso, the daughter of Thomas and Mildred (Rampe) Dwyer.
She graduated from St. Paul Schools; Class of 1951
Rita was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She also contributed her time to St. Vincent DePaul. She enjoyed researching geneology and traveling with her husband.
She married Edmund J. Scherer on September 26, 1953 at St. Paul Catholic Church; he predeceased her on June 15, 2013.
Rita is survived by her children Ray (Marcia) Scherer, David (Tamara) Scherer and Janet (Douglas) Jenkins; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Dwyer, Diane (Larry) Riddle and Marietta (Tom) Ackley; many other loving family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, sister Judy Unterbrink, infant brother.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul.

Obituary:
Leon W. Smith, 67, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, from injuries sustained in a farming accident.
He was born August 28,1945 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Rudolph F. and Donelda M. (Kehres) Smith and was a lifelong area resident. Leon attended St. Paul Catholic Church and was a 1963 graduate of St. Paul High School.
He retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 2005 and was a lifelong area farmer. He was a member of Norwalk Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2743 , Norwalk American Legion Post #41 and Eagles Aerie #711.
He enjoyed wood working, golf, fishing and traveling. Leon is survived by his wife of 11 years, Janis I. (McDonald) Smith, of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Annette M. and Don Schaffer of Monroeville, Ohio, Steven J. and Dianna Smith of Berlin Heights, Ohio, Tamara and Loren Grant of Milan, Ohio, Kevin J. and Missy Smith of Milan, Ohio, Debbie and John Anderson, of Norwalk, Ohio, Sean M. and Jennifer Smith of Columbus, Ohio, and by his step daughters, Vickie L. and Ken Ruppert of Norwalk, Ohio, and Linda M. Glock and Jason Drummond of Gibsonburg, Ohio, 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Rudy and Judy Smith, of Monroeville, Ohio, John and Barbara Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia and Eugene and Rose Smith, of Norwalk, and by his sisters and brothers in law, Norrita and Ron Jaworski, of Norwalk, Ohio, and Patricia and Charles Gies of Norwalk, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his brother in law, Russell Stower in 1994.

Berlin Heights, Ohio - Steven J. Smith, 48, of Berlin Heights, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born August 23, 1966 in Sandusky, Ohio and was a lifelong area resident.
Steve graduated from Monroeville High School in 1984. He was a member of Laborers Union Local #758 of Lorain, Ohio where he had worked with Underground Utilities, of Monroeville, Ohio, and Mark Schaffer of Norwalk, Ohio. Steve enjoyed working when he wasn’t working, cutting wood, helping friends, neighbors, and others in need, and mushroom hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dianna M. (Meggitt) Smith of Berlin Heights, Ohio, by his sons, Tyler Smith of Sandusky, Ohio, and Bradley Smith of Athens, Ohio, by his step sons, Justin (Tatiana) Crank of Huron, Ohio, and Travis Chapman of Sandusky, Ohio, by 3 grandchildren, and by his mother, Helen (Manlet) Smith of Norwalk, Ohio. Steve is also survived by his siblings, Annette M. (Don) Schaffer of Monroeville, Ohio, Tamara (Loren) Grant of Milan, Ohio, Kevin J. (Missy) Smith of Milan, Ohio, Debbie (John) Anderson of Norwalk, Ohio, and Sean M. (Jennifer) Smith of Columbus, Ohio, and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon W. Smith in 2012.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the friends and family who had a benefit for Steve in June, and also to the Eagle Riders for the breakfast benefit.
There will be no calling hours. A celebrations of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in The Chapel - South Campus, 156 South Norwalk Road, Norwalk, Ohio. Pastor Eric Lapata will officiate.

Chesapeake - John W. Smith, 74, of Chesapeake passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 after a long battle with Amyloidosis.
Born in Ohio, he was the son of the late Rudy and Donelda Smith and was also predeceased by his brother, Leon Smith. John was a 1958 graduate of Monroeville High School, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was retired after 30 years from Unidyne Corporation, where he was a contract manager. After retirement, he started and operated Smith Handyman Services in Chesapeake. He was a member of St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Council 2185, and was awarded the 2005 Knight of the Year for the state of Virginia. In his spare time, John enjoyed hunting, gardening, woodworking and making Rosaries.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara; three children, Christopher Smith and wife Kelly, Dale Smith and wife Deborah, and Valerie Dembrak and husband Michael; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Stephen, Emily, Carley, John and Hailey; siblings, Norita Jaworski, Rudolph Smith, Patricia Gies, and Eugene Smith; sisters-in-law, Joretta Watts and Johnna Dail and husband Erle; cousins, Robert Barnhart, Jim Smith and wife Betty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2015 at St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church. Father Brian Rafferty will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00, Sunday at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
The family would like to offer sincere gratitude to Dr. Louis Carideo and his nurse Joyce, Dr. Scott Cross of Virginia Oncology, and to their wonderful neighbors for many years of friendship and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Knights of Columbus Kovar.
