Joanne K. Schafer
Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away, Friday, August 21, 2020 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. Age 85 years. Daughter of the late Cornelius and Katherine (Roberts) Doepker, Joanne was born March 30, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was married to Alex Sonny Schafer, her loving husband of 56 years on December 28, 1957. He predeceased her October 10, 2013. Joanne was a member of St. John Vianney Parish. She enjoyed playing Bingo, spending winters in Florida and especially spending time with her family. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lori and Steven Sella, Unionville; four grandchildren, Ryan Sella, Nicole Sella, Jordan Heckroth and Tyler Heckroth; three great- grandchildren, Laikyn, Alexander and Benton; a great-great-grandson, Parker ; her brother, Robert and Kathleen Depker; sisters-in-law, Kathy Doepker and Pat Doepker; several nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by a son, Gary Schafer; two daughters, Leanne Schafer and Brenda Schafer; one sister, Maureen Quelette; and four brothers, Tom, Jim, Joe and Willard Doepker. Funeral Liturgy will take place 12:00 noon Thursday, August 27, 2020 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit at the church where the family will be present on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until time of Mass. In accordance with State mandate ordinances the limitations of number gathered and safe distancing will be observed. SCHAFER, MR. ALEX "SONNY" Saginaw Twp., Michigan Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Toni and Trish House in Auburn. Age 78 years. The son of the late Alexander and Catherine (Meyer) Schafer, Alex was born on October 12, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan. Alex married Joanne Doepker, his loving wife of 56 years, on December 28, 1957. She survives. Alex, Joanne and his parents were the former owners of Old Heidelberg Inn in Sebewaing. Alex served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He enjoyed canoe racing, snowmobiling, and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. For the last 15 years, he and Joanne spent their winters in Florida and loved spending his time on the beach and enjoying all Florida had to offer. Surviving besides his wife, Joanne are two daughters, Lori and Steven Sella, Unionville; Brenda Schafer, Sebewaing; four grandchildren, Ryan (Tabatha) Sella, Nicole Sella, Jordan Heckroth and Tyler Heckroth; three great-grandchildren, Laikyn, Alexander and Benton; a sister, Betty Guenther, Sebewaing. Alex was preceded in death by a son and a daughter, Gary Schafer and Leanne Schafer, also a brother-in-law, Duane Guenther. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Carlson will officiate with interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. The family will share memories at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Quellet, Lyle E. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 1, 1980 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Age 74 years. Mr. Ouellet was born July 1, 1906 in Gladwin County and had spent a lifetime in Saginaw. He was married to Esther Gratopp Feb. 15, 1927 at St. John Lutheran Church. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a member of Local No. 668. He had retired after 40 years from the Grey Iron Foundry. Besides his wife he leaves one son, Gerald L. Quellet, Frankenmuth; 10 grandchildren; four great grand-daughters; one brother, Harvey Quellet, Portland, Ore.; four sisters: Mrs. Clyde (LaVerne) Staley, Saginaw. Mrs. Alma Butscher, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mrs. Frank (Fern) Cruickshank, Gladwin, Mrs. Harold (Muriel) Penny, Fountain, Mich., Mrs. Francis (Nora) Haley. Midland; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Donald Quellet, Sept. of 1974, a brother Lloyd Quellet, Oct. of 1979, and a sister Mrs. Ida Young, in 1968. Funeral service will take place 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Second and Federal. Rev. Paul W. Schairer will officiate with burial in Forrest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Reitz Funeral Home, 1550 Midland Rd., between Gratiot and State, Sunday 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. and Monday 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesaday after 1:00 p.m. at the church until time of service. Dueller, Esther A., Saginaw, Michigan. Passed away Thursday. De-cember 2, 2004. Age 97 years. Esther Anna Gratopp was born November 8, 1907, in Sagi-naw. She married Lyle DueIlet on February 15, 1927. He pre-deceased her on November 1. 1980. Mrs. Dueller was a mem-ber of St. John Lutheran Church in Saginaw since 1923 and its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the St. Luke's Hospital Guild and Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge 253 and the Senior Citi-zens Group of Buena Vista and Saginaw. Surviving are her son, Gerald (Maureen) Dueller of Frankenmuth; 10 grandchil-dren, Linda (Steve) Bronner of Frankenrnuth: Debbie (Her-shel) Bobbit of Texas; Thomas (Heidi) Dueller of Zeeland; Da-vid (Lynn) Dueller of Florida: Michael (Terry) Dueller of St. Charles; Gary (Arlene) Dueller of Georgia: Donald (Robin) Dueller of Florida; Leann Duel-ler of Birch Run: LaVonne (Ed) Karaba of Birch Run; Laurie Si-vak of Saginaw; many loving great-grandchildren and one sister, Lillian Bell of Saginaw: a daughter-in-law, Laura Dueller Maurer. Esther was prede-ceased by three brothers. Fred. Harold and Harry Gra-topp and her son. Donald and her sister, Ruth Loiselle. Funeral service will take place 1PM Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home on South Mid-land Rd. (M47). Rev. Paulette Cummings will officiate with in-terment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends are welcome to gather with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 12noon to 6PM, and on Monday from 10AM un-til the time of service. Norwalk, Ohio - Edith J. Smith, 93, died Sunday evening, August 19,2012, in Twilight Gardens Home. She was born May 14, 1919 in Bellevue, Ohio to the late John and Ida (Mowry) Lamb and was a lifelong area resident.
Edith was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville, Ohio, where she served as a member of the altar and rosary society and helped with the accounting of the collection envelopes for many years. She was a former telephone operator supervisor in Sandusky, Ohio. Edith and her late husband, Walter, were instrumental in the development of Christie Lane School and Workshop and drove bus for them for many years. Edith was well known for her lemon meringue pie at the St. Joseph festival, and enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She and her husband enjoyed dancing. Edith was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and listened to the Indians win the 1948 world series on the radio.
She is survived by her children, Gregory L. Smith of Norwalk, Ohio, Martin D. Smith of Williston, Ohio, Roger K. Smith, of Norwalk, Ohio, Kathleen C. and Richard Griffin, of Norwalk, Ohio, Alan J. Smith and Susan Schindler of Norwalk, Ohio, and Amy J. and Gary Rasnick of Monroeville, Ohio, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Smith in 2003, by her brothers, Bill, Harold, Ernie, Merlin, and J.P. Lamb, and by her sisters, Phyllis David, Helen Windnagle, and Barbara Kollmeier.

LEIPSIC - Victor C . Schroeder, 66, of 517 S. Poplar St., died at his home at 11:30 a.m. Monday. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Schroeder was born Sept. 14, 1905 in Liberty Township, Putnam County, to Andrew and Elizabeth (Wortman) Schroeder. He married Lauretta Warnecke, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Norbert and Eugene, both of Leipsic; three daughters, Mrs. Louis (Norma) Schroeder, Bluffton, Ind.; Mrs. John (Ruth Ann) Kemper, Ottoville and Mrs. Paul (Mary) Quint, Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Louis Utrup and Mrs. Joe Haselman, both of Leipsic; and Mrs. John Ellerbrock, Ottawa; anil 19 grandchildren. Mr. Schroeder was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church of Leipsic, the Holy Name Sodiety, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Leipsic Grange and was a charter member of the Leipsic Hunting and Fishing Association. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the church, Msgr. Mark Vogel officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be after 7 p.m. today in the. Peoples Funeral Home. Prayer services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
