Patrick (Pat) John Gorman, of Manistee, died peacefully January 2nd in Venice, FL, while visiting a daughter. He was surrounded by his wife of 65 years, Yvonne (LaChapelle) Gorman, and other family members.
A lifelong resident of Lansing, Pat graduated from Resurrection High School in 1947, where he was on the boxing team. He served his country in the Army with the 45th Infantry Division as a combat infantryman during the Korean War, where he earned the Combat Infantry Badge. After 30 years of employment at Michigan Brass and Electric, Pat and Yvonne moved to Manistee. Pat loved to work on home improvements, invent things at his workbench, and make heirlooms for his grandchildren. He was a staunch believer and defender of his Catholic faith, and was an active participant in his local parish. A lesser man may have been challenged by raising nine children in the 1950s through the 80s, but Pat was not daunted by the task. He epitomized the idea of who and what a husband and father should be.
He is survived by his wife, and nine children: Joseph and wife Carol, of Manton, MI, grandson Christopher and wife Tiffany James, and great-grandson, Dalton Joseph; Margaret (Peg) Menzel, of Grand Rapids, and predeceased granddaughter, Anna; Mary Beth Hansen, of Nokomis, FL, and grandchildren Alex and Katherine; Jeanette Wagner and husband Mike, of Kentwood, MI, and granddaughters, Natalie and Sarah; Michael and grandson Justin, of Lansing; Christopher and wife Christine, of Sheridan, MI, and grandson, Dylan; John, of Manistee, and granddaughters, Olivia and Nora; Theresa Simon and husband, Shannon, of Byron Center, MI, and grandchildren Emily and Daniel; Albert and wife, Tammi, of Wiesbaden, Germany, and granddaughters, Amelia and Avi.
Pat outlived his parents, Justin and Mary, and all his siblings: Justin, Jeanne, Lucille, Catherine and Virginia.
The family wishes that those who want to make a memorial to Right to Life of Michigan or a charity of their choosing. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 26th at St. Joseph Church of Divine Mercy Parish in Manistee. The family will receive family and friends at the church from 10:00 am until time of Mass. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
