Szczcpankiewicz Fernanda D [Female] b. 14 FEB 1921 OH - d. 25 SEP 2010 Kingston Care and Rehab Center, Sylvania, Lucas, OH

Burial headstone, Calvary Cemetery, Toledo, Lucas, OH

Obituary:
SOBCZAK Fernanda D. "Fern" Fernanda D. Sobczak, age 89, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Kingston Care and Rehab Center. She was born in Toledo on February 14, 1921 the daughter of Felix and Julie (Zawodny) Szczepankiewicz. A genuine 89 year old sweetheart passed away peacefully with her children at her side after 45 years of pain and suffering with rheumatoid arthritis and pneumonia. She spent the last year at Kingston Care and Rehab Center in Sylvania under the compassionate care of the support staff. All her life, everyone she met was a "darling, sweetheart or honey" to her and she made friends very easily. An avid pen pal writer with over 50 pen pals and several part time jobs kept her busy in her 33 years as a widow. She loved to travel with her husband of 36 years especially the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and collected church bulletins wherever they attended Mass while on the road. She was a caring and loving mother and also loved gardening and collecting dolls and stuffed animals. She enjoyed eating out at a variety of local restaurants every chance she could get and was a fanatic neat-nick making sure everything was put in its place right up until the last day. Fernanda was preceded in death by her mother, Julie (Zawodny) Szczepankiewicz who died while giving birth to her only child, Fernanda; father, Felix Szczepankiewicz; stepmother, Cora; siblings, Gertrude Toth, Genevieve Merritt and Stanley Szczepankiewicz and by her husband, Bernard (Ben) Sobczak. Surviving are her children, Sr. Rosine (Diane) Sobczak OSF and David (Ruth "Skip") Sobczak and by grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Wood and Jonathan Sobczak. We wish to thank the following who were very helpful to us in the last several years: doctors and nurses who took care of her many needs, the staff of Kingston Care Center, Hospice of Northwest Ohio; 6th floor, ICU, surgery and recovery at Flower Hospital. The family requests donations be made to the Sisters of Saint Francis, Sylvania, OH. Family and friends may visit at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, meet directly at Chorpus Christi University Parish (2955 Dorr St.) with visiting starting at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Jim Bacik and Fr. Joe Przybysz officiating. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
