"LIMA, OH - Lima police have identified two persons found dead in a Prospect Avenue home Monday, and have labeled their deaths as homicide-suicide.
"They were 61 year old Michael Bassitt and his 56-year-old wife, Julie. One of the Bassett's is the 5th homicide victim of the year in the Allen County city.
"Police would not disclose which one of the deceased was the murder victim or which spouse did the shooting.
"An autopsy is scheduled Thursday in Toledo."

Obituary:
Julie A. Bassitt, 56, died Nov. 2, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 27, 1953, in Ottawa to Howard E. and Marie T. Ellerbrock Heffley. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother, Marie Wehrly, survives in Lima. On Oct. 30, 1971, she married Michael R. Bassitt, who died Nov. 2, 2009. They were married for 38 years.
Mrs. Bassitt was a homemaker. She never knew a stranger and everyone was her friend, regardless of the situation. She never missed a celebration. She was always ready for a laugh, a joke, a hug or just to talk. When she was healthy, or her legs were ready, she would be out shopping till she dropped. She loved to listen to music and karaoke. She always gave a positive thought to any situation. She loved her family, was her grandsons' biggest fan and she enjoyed watching them play sports. Anything her family needed, she would provide. She also enjoyed playing bingo and watching the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Survivors also include two daughters, Shelly R. (Scott Neff) Bassitt, of Lima, and Cathy M. (Brian Upshaw Sr.) Bassitt, of Elida; three grandchildren, Dre White, B.J. Upshaw and Kayla Neff; a brother, Bud (Vicki) Wehrly, of Bluffton; a stepbrother, Jeff Leatherman; two sisters, Vicki (Jerry) Deal, of Zanesfield, and Tina Porter, of Lima; two stepsisters, Linda (Dennis) Baker and Tina Smith, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Tom Wehrly.
Joint services with her husband will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Richard McKeever III will officiate. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice or the family.

Michael R. Bassitt, 61, died Nov. 2, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 1, 1948, in Lima to Robert and Mary Catherine Musser Bassitt, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 30, 1971, he married Julie A. Bassitt, who died Nov. 2, 2009. They were married for 38 years.
Mr. Bassitt retired from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant after 35 years. He enjoyed everything outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was considered a master craftsman. He could always be found socializing at the bait shop and reservoir or taking pictures of wildlife. He would always be there any time, anywhere to lend a hand or to listen and answer any questions. He loved being with family and friends. He loved his grandsons with all of his heart and loved to watch them play sports. He was not only their ?Pa Pa? but their father figure. He also loved to watch sports, especially The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelly R. (Scott Neff) Bassitt, of Lima, and Cathy M. (Brian Upshaw Sr.) Bassitt, of Elida; three grandchildren, Dre White, B.J. Upshaw and Kayla Neff; a brother, Bob (Jayne) Bassitt, of Northwood; four sisters, Carol (Don) Williams, of Lima, Linda Dearth, of Ada, and Pat Miller and Mary (Tom) Gerdeman, both of Columbus Grove; and a sister-in-law, Marge Bassitt, of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Bassitt; a brother-in-law, George Miller; paternal grandparents, William and Elzora Heffner Bassitt, who raised him from a young age; and an aunt, Ruth Starr.
Joint services with his wife will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Richard McKeever III will officiate. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery.

LIMA � Deborah Anne Neff, age 65, passed away with her loving family by her side at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Lima Memorial Health System.
Deb was born February 28, 1950 in Lima, to the late Richard and Mary Lou (Duebler) McKeever Sr. On November 15, 1969 she married Robert L. "Bub" Neff, who survives in Lima. They just celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage.
She was a 1968 graduate of Lima Senior High School. Deb had worked several years at Eastgate Hallmark and was a member of Lima Mennonite Church. She was an excellent cook, who enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband and family. Her most beloved pastime was spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved supporting her grandchildren in school, athletic and extra curricular activities.
Deb and Bob were blessed with three children: Robin L. (Jason) Kauffman of West Liberty, Scott L. (Shelly) Neff of Lima, David W. (Angela) Neff of Lima; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Kauffman, Isaac Kauffman, Dre White, Kayla Neff, Aidan Neff, Ashton Neff, and Delaney Neff.
Other survivors include two sisters and a brother, Pamela (Roger) Wireman of Lima, Karen Sue Latham of Lima and Richard "Dick" (Linda) McKeever, Jr. of Lima, several brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, extended family and special friends.
Services will begin 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at CHILES - LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Richard McKeever III will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Ward Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the funeral home.

Lynn F. Yoas, 75 of Newport, passed away at 2:38 p.m. Sunday at The Lutheran Home under the care of Heartland Hospice. He had been seriously ill for six weeks. Friends may call from 5 � 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 � 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home. He will lie instate 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church where services will be held at 11 a.m. Rev. James Schmeling, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park under the auspices of Monroe Post 1138 Veteran�s of Foreign Wars. Born Jan. 4, 1937 in Newport, he was the seventh child of Russell and Eva Marie (Shippee) Yoas. He married Shirley L. (Rhoades) Miller on May 23, 1964 in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. Lynn was a 1955 graduate of Airport High School. He joined the Michigan National Guard January 10, 1955 and served till April 2, 1987, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was called into active duty three times during his 32 years of military service. Lynn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served as Council President, treasurer, usher, and grounds keeper. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 2011 in Carleton, Model A Restorers Club, Floral City Model A�s, National Guard Association of Michigan, and the Berlin Township Senior Center. He worked for the Ohio China Company for 8 years and then for Commerce Paper Company in Toledo for 35 years, 26 of those as a sales representative before retiring in February of 1999. Lynn enjoyed being with family and friends, traveling, snow skiing, bowling, hunting, fishing, taking flying lessons, ballroom dancing, woodworking, and restoring a Model A and an International Scout with his sons and friends. He is survived by his wife Shirley; children, Brenda (Greg) Leveille of Woodhaven, Bradley Yoas of Newport, and Steven (Jennifer) Yoas of Carleton; grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert) Capeling, Corissa Leveille, Makenzi Yoas and twins Hadyn and Hunter Yoas; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Kelsey; brothers, Lloyd (Alice) Yoas, Glenn (Arlene) Yoas, Ronald Yoas, and Bruce Yoas; sisters, Lorraine (Milton) LaVigne, Colleen Cook, and Margaret (John) Kuzych; sisters in law, Martha, Nancy, and Alice Yoas. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Lowell, and Waynn Yoas; and a step-son David Miller. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church. Thomas Meyer Thomas J. Meyer. 86, of 220 Morrison Dr., died Tuesday in American Nursing Home, where he was a patient three weeks. Mr. Meyer was a car inspector for the Detroit & Toledo Shore Line Railroad 35 years. retiring in 1959 Ire was past treacurer of Lang Lodge, No. 215, Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen. Surviving are his sons. Joseph A., James M., Lawrence J., and William A. Services will he at 10 a m. Friday in Good Shepherd Church. The body is in the Eggleston-Memert-Welsh Mortuary, Coy Road, where wake services will be at 7:30 p.m.. and the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Obituary:
Dr. Richard G. Kappus, age 90, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015, in Swan Creek Care Center. He was born September 11, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio to George and Marie Kappus. Dr. Kappus was a medic in the U.S. Army from 1944-46 stationed in the Philippines. Upon his honorable discharge he attended John Carroll University for pre-med, graduating in 1950, then attended St. Louis University School of Medicine, graduating in 1954. He interned at Mercy Hospital in Toledo where he met the love of his life, the former Rita Huss. They married in 1956 during his pediatric residency at Detroit Children's Hospital from 1955-57. Dr. Kappus began his medical practice in Toledo in 1957 with Dr. John Miller and Dr. John Pigott, where they practiced as Kappus, Miller and Pigott until 1993. His memberships included the American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County, Midwest Ohio Pediatric Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also was a past Director of Pediatrics at St. Vincent's and made his doctor rounds at all hospitals in the Toledo area. He was also a longtime member of Christ the King Parish. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also a devoted and beloved pediatrician to so many patients throughout his career.
Preceded in death by his wife, Rita and sister, Mary O'Connor, he is survived by his children, Jean (Denny) Meyer, Ann (Dave) Schaefer, John Kappus and Mark (Brenda) Kappus; grandchildren, Laura (Nick) Garza, Lindsey Meyer, Andy Schaefer, Katie Schaefer, Jack Schaefer and Jakob Kappus; and great-granddaughter, Averie Garza.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 20 from 2-6 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey). Visitation will continue Monday, December 21 after 9 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo where a memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Toledo Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to St. John's Jesuit High School, 5901 Airport Hwy., Toledo, Ohio 43615 or Notre Dame Academy, 3535 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43623.

Obituary:
Rita M. Kappus, age 79, passed away Friday, November 22, 2013, at her home in Toledo. She was born February 28, 1934, in Tiffin, Ohio to Arthur and Bertha Huss. She and her eight siblings were raised in Tiffin where she graduated from Calvert High School. Rita moved to Toledo to attend the Mercy School of Nursing and graduated in 1955. She worked at the Children's Hospital of Michigan for a short time before marrying Dr. Richard Kappus in 1956. Rita raised their four children and became an active participant in their school activities filling various roles including girl scout leader. She was a volunteer at the Red Cross. Rita was also an avid tennis player. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Rita is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Kappus; children, Jean (Denny) Meyer, Ann (Dave) Schaefer, John Kappus, and Mark (Brenda) Kappus; grandchildren, Laura (Nick) Garza, Lindsey Meyer, Andy Schaefer, Katie Schaefer, Jack Schaefer, and Jackob Kappus; sister, Helen Packham, and brother, Bernard Huss. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul, John, Bill, and Tom Huss; and sisters, Patricia Hager and Agnes Roth.
