John Toomey Lansing, MI
Age 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 28, 2007 with family members at his side. John was born December 8, 1926 in Lansing, Michigan and was the son of Michael and Monera (Rizk) Toomey. The oldest child of Lebanese immigrants, John was a lifelong resident of Lansing. He graduated from Sexton High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army at the end of WWII. Following in his father's footsteps, John became a barber in his late teens. He owned and operated Toomey's Barber Shop in Lansing until his retirement in 1986. John was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing cards with his friends. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and a good and loyal friend to many. His dignity, strength and optimism in the face of numerous medical challenges served as an example and inspiration for all who knew him. Surviving are his loving wife of 29 years, Jean Marie (Reed) Toomey; children, Amelia (David Vandever), Richard (Margaret), John (Cindy) and Bryan (Kim); brother, Jack (Souad); sister, Naomi (Russell) Hall; 'stepchildren, David (Karen) Gorman, Mary Anne (Victor) Nico, Nancy (James) Ulrey, David (Debbie) Gorman; 15 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 West Saginaw Hwy, Lansing 48917. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007 at First Pres-byterian Church, 510 W. Ottawa Street, Lansing 48933 with the Rev. Anthony A. Patrick, officiating. Interment will be Delta Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation Michigan Chapter, 1050 Wilshire Drive, Ste 302, Troy, MI 48084-9762 in memory of John. Obituary:
Russell T. Brown died January 30, 2007 at the age of 84. Born October 24, 1922 in Duplain Township, he was the son of Vere and Maybelle (Risley) Brown and lived in St. Johns and Lansing before moving to Bath. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940. Russell was a Technician 5th Grade in the US Army during WWII serving 34 months in the South Pacific. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and gardening and was an associate member of Spile Dam Hunting Club in Newberry. Russell retired from the Michigan Dept. of Transportation in 1985 after 28 years of service. Just prior to his retirement, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associates Degree in Applied Technology from Lansing Community College, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and taught Heating and Air Conditioning at LCC. On April 12, 1950, he married Nanette L. Phelps in Lansing and she survives him.
Also surviving are two sons, Vere (Sheri) Brown of Laingsburg and Jack (Dawn) Brown of Bath, six grandchildren, Korinne (Aaron) Orlowski, Jacob (Emily) Brown, Caleb, Pete, Amanda, and Elisabeth Brown, one great grandchild, Deacon Aaron Orlowski, five sisters, Dorothy Gates of Lansing, Lillian Searles, Isabelle Cleland, Lucille Davis all of St. Johns, and Donna (Edward) Preston of Harrison, several nieces/nephews/cousins.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 2, 2007, at Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Rose Cemetery, Bath, with Pastor John Walworth officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Thursday and 10-11 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Nanette Louese Brown age 87, of Dewitt, MI formerly of Bath, MI, passed away Tues-day, July 18, 2017at Rosewood Assisted Liv-ing, DeWitt, MI. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. Burial will take place at Rose Cemetery Bath, MI. Visi-tation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 6-8 P.M. and Saturday from 11:00 until the time of service at the funeral home. Nanette was born in Lansing, MI on July 9,1930, the daugh-ter of Darrow C. and Marie E. (Swagart) Phelps. She gradu-ated from J.W. Sexton High School in June of 1948. Nanette married Russell T. Brown on April 12, 1950 in Lansing, MI. Russell passed away January 30, 2007. Nanette lived in Lan-sing before moving to Bath. Nanette retired from Dart Container were she worked as a Secretary/Clerical Supervisor. She enjoyed knitting, crochet-ing, music, tap dancing and was a former cellist with the Lan-sing Symphony Orchestra. She is survived by her 2 sons; Vere and Sheri Brown of Laingsburg, MI, and Jack and Dawn Brown of Bath, MI, 6 grandchildren; Korinne and Aaron Orlowski, Jacob and Em-ily Brown, Caleb and Anne Brown, Pete, Amanda, and Elisa-beth Brown, 8 great-grandchildren; Deacon and Everett Or-lowski, Becca, Zach and Anika Brown, Ava and Ariah Brown, Aislynn Brown, sister Norma Perdew of Dimondale, MI, and sisters-in-law; Isabell Cleland of St. Johns, MI and Donna Preston, of Harrison, MI. Nanette is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her par-ents and her husband.
