Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Cathedral. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home, with a rosary to follow.
Mary was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Chicago, Ill., to Anne Prendergast O'Hanley and Neil J. O'Hanley. She attended St. Xavier Academy where she excelled in sports. She played the piano and was an Irish dancer. Her love of music has always been an inspiration to the family. Mary graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in English literature. She has always been our family "grammar authority."
An adventurous spirit followed her throughout her full life. In 1934 she flew in an open biplane across the country. Fifty years later she flew on the trans-Atlantic Concorde. A walk on the Great Wall of China, helicopter adventures over New Zealand, navigating the Nile and riding camels in Egypt exemplified this spirit.
Mary was a gentle caregiver to all around her. She delighted in her home and family. Her quiet demeanor with her quick wit endeared her to the lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; and brothers, Louis, Allan and Joe.
She will be dearly missed.
