Obituary:
AMES, CARRIE ELISABETH 1973-2006. Carrie Elisabeth Ames was born in Kennewick, Wash., to Alan and Betsy Ames on Feb. 16, 1973. She attended grade school in California and Oregon, graduating from Tigard High School in 1991. She ran on the cross country and track teams for Tigard High, winning the "Most Inspirational Runner" award. She trained for and ran the Portland Marathon with her mother and Aunt Rebecca, and her friend, Brian Redding. She also ran the St. George, Utah, and Houston Marathons with her Aunt Kate. She was training for this year's Portland Marathon with her mom and her friend from work, Rosemary. Carrie loved to read and go to the movies. She loved her "children" - kitties, Bucci and Sage. She loved to hike and camp and ski. She wrote beautiful poetry. She traveled to Italy and the Caribbean and took a driving trip to Michigan with her Grospapa and her Aunt Kate. Her Grospapa Richard Studer and her paternal grandparents, Jean and Bill Ames, preceded her in death. She had a very loving relationship with each of her grandparents. Carrie is survived by her mother, Betsy; father, Alan; grandmother, Rosemary Studer; and her sisters and their families: Heidi Ames and Matthew Summers and Hannah and Doug Den Bleyker and their son, Noah. Her aunts, uncles and cousins are Kate (Carrie's kindred spirit) and Robert Marsh; Rebecca and Walt Berling and their sons, Nick and Anders; Mike and Michelle Studer and their sons, Nick and Tom; Mike's former wife, Dot French, and their children Daniel and Jeri, and Jeri's daughter, Ataya; Kris DeZarn and her children, Katy and Jacob and their father, Don DeZarn; Jill Ames-Havens and her children, Brejan, Adam and Shauna; Dean and Connie Ames and his children, Todd, Chad and Meghan; her father's wife, Mary, and their daughter, Nickie. Her dear friend from college, Brian Redding, and his wife and family also mourn this loss. Our family is indebted to Carrie's coworkers and customers at the Burlingame Safeway for their affectionate appreciation of her good and loving heart. We will always feel thankful to you for including her in your lives over the last 10 years. We are especially thankful for the police officers and the paramedic team who tried so courageously to bring Carrie back to us. We will always remember your respectful and diligent care as we lost this beloved child. Carrie's brief life had, and will continue to have, a profound impact on those many people who love her so dearly and even those who only know her by the stories we tell. Our sweet child is safe at last. Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, in St. Luke Lutheran Church in Portland. Please send all donations in honor of Carrie Ames to the Epilepsy Foundation with the following contact information: telephone (800) 213-5821. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
