Obituary:
George W. Harrison, electrical superintendent of the Michigan Power Co., was almost instantly killed Saturday afternoon at 3:15 while engaged` in repairing and putting up some wires of the company which had been blown down at the corner of Michigan ave., and Harley st. Francis Kelly. a brother-in-law, who submitted to an operation at Edward W. Sparrow hospital last Thursday witnessed the fatal accident from his room in the hospital. .
Mr. Harrison was immediately removed to a room in the hospital next to that of his brother-in-law and every effort wars made by attending physicians to restore the stricken man but without success.
It was due to the fact that a strike was on among the linemen of the power company that Mr. Harrison went in person to attend to this emergency call. Ordinarily he did none of that work and this particular circumstance called him out Saturday afternoon to the work which in a few minutes resulted in his death. Don Milburn, an employee of the company, was on the ground at the foot of the pole when Mr. Harrson came in contact with the live wire and 4,000 volts of electricity passed through his body. He did not fall to the ground, his body catching to one of the cross pieces after he had cleared the wires. In a few minutes the body had been taken down and removed to the hospital.
Mr. Harrison was 36 years of age and had lived all his life in Lansing. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wyman Harrison. The father. who died some years ago. was well known in business circles in this city, having engaged in the hardware and drug business, and being a graduate of M. A. C. [Michigan Agricultural College] George was educated in the public schools and was a student of M. A. C. for about three years. For the past 12 years he had served faithfully in the employ of the Michigan Power co. A reliable and efficient electrical engineer, he was well and favorably known to the mechanical and industrial concerns of Lansing.
Familiarly known to his friends and acquaintances as "Colonel", he was most highly regarded for his sterling worth by all who knew him. He leaves behind him at his home. 117 South Fairview ave., a wife and seven children: also his mother. Mrs. Elizabeth Harrison. 1817 East Michigan ave.: two sisters, Miss Josephine Harrison. who resides with her mother, and Mrs. Chester McCormick, 117 East Lenawee st., wife of Colonel McCormick now in France with the 119th infantry.
The funeral will he held from St. Mary's Catholic church Tuesday scorning at 9 o'clock. Father Terrence Kelly. a brother-in-law. from Mandon. Mich., officiating at the services. Interment will he at Mt. hope cemetery.
A very devout and faithful churchman, Mr. Harrison enjoyed the confidence and the respect of everybody. He was a member of the Knights of columbus and the Loyal Order of Moose. The knights will attend the funeral in a body.
