Eulogy:
My beloved Katie has left us. She stopped breathing yesterday at her Mom's apartment in NYC and the paramedics were unable to revive her. She died peacefully, without any pain, without any fear, and in a familiar place. She often told me that she wasn't afraid of death, but of dying. Fuck Cancer.
I'm sorry that some of you may be hearing this for the first time via this post. I've called so many people and told them personally, but I'm sure there are many of her friends and acquaintances that I've overlooked.
I met Katie in late January of 2004. We had our 2nd date on Valentine's Day and I already kinda knew that I'd fallen for her but was afraid to admit to myself. By May, I knew we'd one day be married. Ten years later, she's given me two of the best kids in the world and I'm a much better man for having had her in my life. Her spark, her spirit, her love of life was infectious. You can see of that in this photo of her, which is how I will always think of her. This is the picture of Katie I have carried and will always carry in my head.
We're still making arrangements for a small graveside service in Montclair next week and then a much larger memorial service at Katie's UU Church in NYC. I'll post details here when I have them. In the meantime, please use the comment section of this post to share memories of Katie with all of her friends.
